An on-grid solar system, also known as a grid-connected photovoltaic power system, is designed to generate electricity while being connected to the utility grid. This system comprises solar panels linked to one or more inverters. The electricity produced by the solar panels is in DC form, which is then converted to AC by the inverters. Unlike off-grid systems, this configuration does not use batteries; instead, any excess power generated is fed back into the grid.
This setup significantly reduces power bills, as surplus electricity can be sold to the local electricity supplier, ensuring efficient utilization of the generated power.
Off-grid solar energy systems convert sunlight into electricity independently, without relying on local utility grids. These systems are ideal for remote areas lacking public grid access.
Off-grid solar energy systems incorporate storage solutions, such as batteries, to store excess electricity for future use. The primary components of these systems include solar panels, inverters, and batteries.
Hybrid solar energy systems have the capability to store energy, allowing them to function as a backup power supply during blackouts, similar to an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). Additionally, any excess power generated and not utilized is fed back into the grid. This system is a combination of both on-grid and off-grid solar PV systems.
The term ‘hybrid’ refers to a system that integrates solar energy generation with energy storage while being connected to the electricity grid. Hybrid solar systems generate power like a standard grid-tie system but utilize special hybrid inverters and batteries to store energy for later use.
